Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders

Hourglass released a line of highlighting powders this spring called Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders. There have been lots of highlighters released in general lately, and in particular this spring – many of them have been incredibly beautiful, and Hourglass are no exception.

The texture of all the Strobe Lighting Powders is incredibly soft and finely milled. It only takes a light touch of a fluffy brush to pick up plenty of powder to sweep over the tops of your cheekbones for a gorgeous, natural, softly glowing highlight. Because they are so finely milled, they do tend to kick up excess powder if you’re not careful or if you’re using a brush with stiffer bristles, but if you’re aware of this and are careful it’s not an issue.

It’s really hard to communicate the incredibly beautiful nature of highlight that these powders impart to one’s skin, because when swatches, they don’t seem particularly shimmery or spectacular. But I think that it’s the lack of overtly shimmery quality in which their magic resides. When applied to the skin, these truly give a soft, glowing from within look that never looks anything other than ethereal and beautiful.

I use the Iridescent Strobe Light which is a light, neutral pink powder, which doesn’t look discernibly pink on the skin, but simply imparts a gentle, healthy, brightness to the highlight which I love. I apply it only on the apples of my cheeks on top of my blush. This gives my cheeks a very rounded healthy look.

The four shades are universal for all skin tones so there is no wrong selection – it all comes down to personal preference. I’ve been using Incandescent Strobe Light which is a light pinky-beige and I just realized that it was originally in the Ambient Lighting Palette. Iridescent Strobe Light is an illuminating pink, Euphoric Strobe Light is a pearlescent beige (neutral), & Brilliant Strobe Light is a light yellow golden shade.
