Is This Translucent Setting Powder Worth The Hype?

Is This Translucent Setting Powder Worth The Hype?

When thinking about making a cosmetic purchase, I always do some research beforehand, which includes reading several reviews through Google and watching a number of YouTube videos. The Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder has been praised by many beauty bloggers with regards to its ability to set under eye concealer without creasing or appearing cakey that I just had to try this one myself.

I’ve used the Makeup Forever HD powder, the Makeup Forever super matte loose powder and the Ben Nye powders but I always felt the quality of all those powders were Meh not to mention the Makeup Forever HD powder looks terrible in photography. I am a bridal makeup artist and needless to say I ‘bake’ my clients. A LOT. So I was on a look out for a better setting powder when I picked up the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder from Harrods whilst I was in London last month.

Up until I bought this product, I had been using the Ben Nye Banana powder mixed with Buff and felt that was working well. In my opinion, the Laura Mercier translucent powder set my under eye concealer smoother than the Ben Nye powders and also appeared less cakey. The consistency of the powder is much more finely milled which is why I believe it prevented a cakey finish. I’ve actually started using the translucent powder to set my foundation as well and find it gives an even better finish than my trusty MAC Studio Finish face powder.

Now the translucent powder comes in two shades. One is the Invisible loose setting powder and the other is the translucent one. I went for the latter as it is pale yellow in color and I personally feel the white translucent powder gives off a grey cast in pictures.

I also love how fine the powder is. It leaves a matte and silky smooth finish on my skin. The photos won’t even give justice to what I’m saying. The best part is, it doesn’t mask the color of my foundation. It’s indeed translucent! Woohoo! I have oily skin so this thing can keep my face matte for 8 hours at least.

P.S. How do you like my new photography set up? Hopefully I’ll get better at taking product pictures with time.

Thanks for reading!
