Review: Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST

Review: Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST

I’ve been wanting to review the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line for the past year but didn’t because even thou it’s been available in USA for a couple years now (where I picked these up the first time around) this line was only recently launched in Dubai. The entire line is targeted towards dry skin which makes the launch perfectly timed as we moved towards the cooler weather.

Let’s move towards the review…

HYDRO BOOST Water Gel Moisturiser

This product has a gel-like consistency. You only need a tiny bit to cover your entire face and neck, which means that this 1.7 oz jar should last you a good, long while. There is a fragrance to this product, and it smells very clean and fresh to me.

True to its claims, this product absorbs quickly into the skin, which I love. At first you might feel a slight tackiness but, after a minute or two, the skin becomes very soft and smooth-feeling with no stickiness whatsoever. I used this product in the morning, before applying my makeup, and I do like it that way. I find that this product does not increase my mid-morning breakthrough shine, and I don’t find that my skin is a giant grease ball by the afternoon. This product also helps make my makeup look smoother (much like a face primer) but it doesn’t really help my makeup last any longer (not that it claims to). The really cool thing about this moisturiser is that this is perfect for super oily skin like mine.

HYDRO BOOST Water Gel Moisturiser

The key ingredient in this product is hyaluronic acid (a powerful moisturizer that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, keeping skin plumped and hydrated); dimethicone and glycerin (maintain the skin’s moisture barrier, so water won’t evaporate faster than it can be reabsorbed).

It’s a cool, pale-blue cream that jiggles ever so slightly when you move the jar and feels like liquid to the touch. It has a pleasantly aquatic scent—crisp and watery—and absorbs instantly. In fact, that happens so fast, you might wonder if you really put it on if your skin didn’t also feel quenched and immediately softer.

Gel formulas have quickly earned a reputation as the perfect moisturizer for people who don’t like moisturizer—people with oily skin in particular are fans because gels don’t feel greasy. But this one is great for sensitive and dry skin, too. It feels cool (in both senses of the word) going on and can be applied multiple times a day without making you feel like you’re piling on the product and clogging your pores. And while it leaves skin feeling thoroughly hydrated, it also dries with a slightly matte finish, which makes it ideal for wearing under makeup. Nothing is going to slide around on top of this stuff. Unlike the water gel, this one is for extra dry skin.

HYDRO BOOST Micellar Water

I personally love using micellar water to take off my makeup and the best one I’ve used to date is the one from Bioderma. It is quite pricey but I love it too much to give it up. I’ve tried using a cheaper alternative from Garnier but nothing came close to the Bioderma quality….until now. I used this to take off my makeup from the launch event itself and it was so good! It’s very comparable to Bioderma in quality and the price is a third of what Bioderma Micellar water costs.

HYDRO BOOST Water Gel Cleanser

This I had never used from this line before. Nothing extraordinarily special about this one except it takes off your makeup and cleanses your face at the same time. I always prefer face cleansers that take of makeup since its one less step in my night care routine. Plus this one’s great for dry skinned gals with sensitive skin.

HYDRO BOOST Cleansing Facial Wipes

I’ve used these in the past too. These are quite powerful in taking off makeup, even waterproof one. I absolutely do not like the makeup removing wipes from Garnier or Johnsons and Johnsons. They do nothing for my super glam, water proof makeup but the Neutrogena ones were quite wonderful to use. They do what they say. Pretty standard, good quality, makeup removing wipes.

AED 33

I absolutely love the water gel moisturiser and the gel cream moisturiser from this line and I’m so glad these finally arrived in Dubai. I highly recommend getting these two from the line if you have dry skin.
